Cyber Attack Stuns Delhi High Court: Virtual Hearing Disrupted by Obscene Content

A shocking security breach occurred at the Delhi High Court on Tuesday when a virtual hearing presided over by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia was repeatedly interrupted by pornographic videos. The incident took place around 12:56 PM while the bench was conducting proceedings via video conferencing. Despite court officials’ attempts to restart the session, the explicit content reappeared twice, followed by a chilling message on the screen stating, “You have been hacked,” forcing the judges to suspend virtual operations immediately.

In response to this unprecedented digital intrusion, Chief Justice Upadhyay ordered the Registrar General to take immediate legal action. The Delhi Police’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, a specialized cybercrime wing, has registered a case and launched an investigation into the suspected cyber attack. Preliminary findings suggest that unauthorized individuals logged into the virtual session using the names “Sridhar Sarnobat” and “Shithijit Singh.” While Shithijit Singh claimed his account was hacked from the United States, Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma noted that the disruption was not localized to the Chief Justice’s court but affected several other courtrooms as well.

The IFSO unit is currently utilizing advanced digital forensics to trace the origin of the hack and identify the perpetrators. The court has issued a stern warning against the recording or broadcasting of these unauthorized incidents, noting that such acts are strictly prohibited and will lead to prosecution. This event has raised serious concerns regarding the cybersecurity infrastructure of judicial platforms in India, especially as the IFSO continues to investigate whether this was an isolated prank or a coordinated effort to undermine the dignity of the higher judiciary.
