In a significant move toward administrative austerity, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have decided to slash the number of vehicles in their respective convoys by 50%. This decision comes as a direct response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation and reduced government spending amidst the ongoing global energy concerns linked to the West Asia crisis.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu issued clear directives to the DGP and the Intelligence Chief to implement this reduction immediately, particularly during district tours. He emphasized that the government must lead by example in avoiding unnecessary expenditures and resource wastage. Furthermore, the CM suggested that ministers and other high-level VIPs should also review their security details to eliminate redundant vehicles, ensuring that austerity measures are reflected across all levels of the administration.
Following the Chief Minister’s lead, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan instructed his security wing to reduce his convoy strength by half as well. A statement from the Deputy CM’s office noted that the decision was inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision for national resource management. By halving their motorcades, the top leadership aims to send a strong message to the public about the importance of fuel conservation and responsible governance during challenging global economic times. This proactive step by the AP leadership has been widely lauded as a benchmark for political accountability.
