Kanaka Durga Temple Gears Up for Grand Shakambari Festival

The Kanaka Durga Temple atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada is preparing to celebrate the annual Shakambari Festival with great devotion from July 27 to 29. During the festival, Goddess Kanaka Durga will be adorned as Goddess Shakambari using a vibrant display of leafy vegetables, fresh produce, and fruits, symbolizing nature’s abundance.

As part of the preparations, the temple has received the first batch of seven tonnes of vegetables donated by traders from the Durga Malleswara Wholesale Vegetable Market with support from the temple trust board. Under the supervision of Chairman Borra Radhakrishna and Executive Officer Sheena Nayak, temple priests have already begun crafting decorative vegetable garlands for the deity.

Vegetables have been sourced from several regions, including Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Eluru, Tenali, Nuzvid, and other nearby towns, and transported safely to the temple using Devasthanam buses. With a large number of devotees expected during the Ashada month celebrations, temple authorities have also taken special measures to manage the anticipated rush and ensure smooth festival arrangements.
