Sugar Prices Rise Ahead of Festive Season, Consumers Face Purchase Limits

With the festive season approaching, households across India are preparing to make traditional sweets and savouries. However, the rising prices of sugar are threatening to add extra pressure to festive budgets. The sharp increase in sugar prices has raised concerns among consumers, homemakers and sweet manufacturers, while limited availability in some markets is making the situation more difficult.

Consumers are now facing restrictions while purchasing sugar both online and at supermarkets. Several quick-commerce platforms, including Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart, have reportedly introduced limits on the quantity of sugar that can be purchased in a single order. For instance, Swiggy Instamart has restricted purchases of certain crystal sugar packs to two kilograms per order.

In addition to purchase limits, some brands and varieties of sugar are reportedly showing as out of stock on certain platforms. The combination of rising prices and limited availability could make festive preparations more expensive for households. Consumers are therefore keeping a close watch on sugar prices and availability as the festive season draws closer.
