The Delhi Police Special Cell has busted an alleged Pakistan-based espionage network that used Indian SIM cards to access WhatsApp groups and gather sensitive information. The Special Cell’s Northern Range arrested a Delhi-based couple, Mohammad Sahil and his wife Sameera, for allegedly working with Pakistani intelligence operatives since 2024.
According to police, the network obtained Indian SIM cards through local contacts and sent them to Pakistan via Dubai. The cards were reportedly used to activate WhatsApp accounts, which Pakistani operatives allegedly used to enter Indian WhatsApp groups and contact users to obtain sensitive information.
Investigators said the couple was also tasked with recruiting people to conduct reconnaissance of cantonment areas in different parts of India. Police said eight Indian SIM cards were sent to Pakistan through Dubai during 2024 and 2025, with the couple allegedly receiving around Rs 30,000 from their Pakistani handlers.
