Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda has urged political parties not to hijack or politicise the growing youth-led campaign over issues including failing schools, disputed examinations and unemployment. In an interview with IANS, he said young Indians should be allowed to raise their concerns independently and speak for themselves.
Pitroda said the Congress could support the campaign and act as a catalyst but should not attempt to take control of it for political benefit. He argued that direct political intervention could undermine the credibility of the movement and weaken the initiative taken by young campaigners.
He said the central idea was to avoid political polarisation and allow young people to decide their own course of action. Pitroda also made it clear that he would oppose any attempt by a political party he was associated with to appropriate the campaign for electoral advantage.
