Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sequel ‘Jailer 2’ has been officially announced for release on October 15, 2026. However, reports suggest that the makers are considering postponing the film due to the heavy competition from major Telugu releases lined up for the Dasara season. The first installment, Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and released in 2023, emerged as a major success in the Telugu states as well, raising strong expectations for its sequel.
The competition is expected to intensify with Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Ranabali’, which is scheduled to hit theatres on October 16. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film is already generating considerable buzz. Meanwhile, the Venkatesh and Trivikram Srinivas combination’s ‘AK 47’ is also reportedly considering October 16 as an alternative release date. The film is initially targeting October 9, but may move to October 16 if that date does not work out.
This has created an interesting situation around the release of Jailer 2. If Rajinikanth’s film arrives on October 15, two major Telugu films could enter theatres the very next day, potentially leading to a fierce box-office clash. Rajinikanth’s strong fan base and the impressive response to the Telugu version of Jailer make the sequel a serious competitor in the Telugu market. With the Dasara season already packed with big releases, all eyes are now on whether Jailer 2 will stick to October 15 or opt for a new release date.
