Malayalam Cinema is on a Different Level: Dinesh Karthik Lavishes Praise on ‘Ponman’ and ‘Echo’

In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Dinesh Karthik shared that he watched two Malayalam films over the past week—‘Ponman’ and ‘Echo’—and was thoroughly impressed by both. He particularly lauded actor Basil Joseph for his exceptional performance in Ponman, noting that the actor’s portrayal was so compelling that the audience journeys through the entire story alongside his character. DK also extended his appreciation to the supporting cast for their brilliant contributions to the film.

Moving on to the thriller ‘Echo’, Karthik expressed surprise at the film’s unique plot, stunning cinematography, and choice of locations. He credited director Dinshith for his visionary execution, stating that the quality of such productions elevates the status of Malayalam cinema within the Indian film industry. “Malayalam cinema’s standard is truly unique. We need more films like these,” Karthik wrote, encouraging his followers to explore these regional gems.

Ponman, directed by Jothish Shankar and starring Basil Joseph, Sajin Gopu, and Lijomol Jose, has already been a critical and commercial success, completing a 50-day theatrical run. It previously received accolades from Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap as well. On the other hand, Echo, a suspense thriller directed by Dinjith Ayyathan, has been gaining steady momentum for its technical finesse. Karthik’s endorsement has now brought these films into the limelight for a broader pan-Indian audience.
