K. Laxman Slams Speaker’s Clean Chit to Defecting MLAs: “A Blow to Democracy”

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman has reacted sharply to Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s decision to grant a “clean chit” to MLAs who defected from the BRS to the Congress party. Laxman described the Speaker’s verdict on the disqualification petitions as a “death blow to democracy.” He criticized the long delay in the investigation, stating that after months of stalling, the final decision was as trivial as “digging a mountain to catch a mouse.”

The BJP leader alleged that Telangana has been turned into a “laboratory for defections” under the current administration. He pointed out the irony of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally welcoming these MLAs into the party fold with scarves, while the government now remains silent on the legalities. Laxman emphasized that the BJP is the only party that respects moral values and the public mandate, recalling how the Vajpayee government chose to lose power by a single vote rather than encouraging defections.

Laxman further demanded an explanation from AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of hypocrisy for preaching constitutional values in Parliament while ignoring the “chameleon politics” of his party in Telangana. He claimed that the Congress and BRS are competing with each other in violating democratic norms. The MP announced that the BJP would launch a legal battle against this decision and take the Congress party’s “unconstitutional” behavior to the people’s court.
