Monalisa Bhosle, who gained national fame as the “Rudraksha Girl” during the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, has recently become the center of a social media storm following her marriage to Furman Khan. Netizens have labeled their union as “Love Jihad,” a term used to allege coercive religious conversion through marriage. The wedding, which took place in Thiruvananthapuram, sparked intense debate because Monalisa had previously become a symbol of spiritual devotion for many followers of Sanatana Dharma while selling rudrakshas at the Kumbh Mela.
In a strong response to the critics, Monalisa’s husband, Furman Khan, clarified that their relationship is based on pure love and mutual respect for all religions. He stated, “We are human beings first; we will both continue to follow our respective religions while respecting others.” Monalisa also defended her personal choice, asserting that while her respect for spirituality remains unchanged, her marriage is a private decision that should not be viewed through a communal lens or colored by religious politics.
The controversy has also drawn a reaction from the director of the upcoming film Manipur Files, in which Monalisa was cast as the lead. The director expressed surprise at her decision, noting that he had chosen her to represent the values of traditional heritage based on her public image at the Kumbh Mela. While some continue to criticize her for her choice, others argue that as a consenting adult, she has the constitutional right to marry whoever she chooses, and that linking her past public persona to her private life is an infringement on her fundamental rights.
