In a seismic shift for Telangana politics, K. Kavitha formally launched her new political party, Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS), on Saturday during a massive public meeting at Muneerabad. This move comes six months after her high-profile suspension and subsequent resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by her father, former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. By reclaiming the ‘TRS’ acronym—the original identity of the statehood movement—Kavitha aims to tap into regional sentiments at a time when the BRS is struggling to find its footing after consecutive electoral defeats.
Addressing a charged crowd, Kavitha launched a blistering attack on her family, specifically targeting KCR and her brother, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). She described her father as a “robot” who has lost his political maturity and disconnected himself from the struggles of farmers and the poor. Kavitha alleged that she was forced out of the BRS for speaking up against corruption in the Kaleshwaram project, claiming she now feels “ashamed” to have been part of a family that prioritizes farmhouses and succession over social justice.
Defining her new party’s path, Kavitha declared that the Telangana Rashtra Sena would fight as a credible alternative to the “three-party syndicate” of Congress, BJP, and BRS. She criticized the Congress for its focus on making Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister and dismissed the BRS as a vehicle solely intended to elevate KTR to the Chief Minister’s chair. Vowing to rebuild the state with a focus on dignity and social justice, Kavitha’s launch marks the beginning of a fierce, three-way battle for the future of Telangana.
