Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has strongly reacted to the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam, demanding the complete abolition of the NEET system. In a formal statement, he asserted that the frequent occurrences of question paper leaks and subsequent exam cancellations are clear evidence of deep-seated systemic failures within the National Testing Agency (NTA). CM Vijay emphasized that such irregularities jeopardize the future of millions of aspiring medical students.
The Chief Minister reiterated Tamil Nadu’s long-standing opposition to the national entrance exam, highlighting its detrimental impact on specific student demographics. He expressed concern that NEET unfairly disadvantages students from rural areas, those attending government schools, and those studying in the Tamil medium. To ensure a more equitable selection process, Vijay urged the Central Government to allow states to fill medical seats based on Class 12 marks, returning to a merit-based system that honors state-level educational standards.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the paper leak has intensified, with the CBI making significant headway. The agency has already arrested five individuals across Jaipur, Gurugram, and Nashik as part of its nationwide crackdown. During Wednesday’s raids, officials seized several digital devices, including mobile phones and laptops, to trace the digital footprint of the leak. While the legal probe continues, CM Vijay’s call for a policy shift has reignited the national debate over the feasibility of a single entrance test for medical admissions.
