A major transition has taken place at the highest level of Telangana’s administrative framework. Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Jaju has been officially appointed as the new Chief Secretary (CS) of the state. The state government issued the official orders following the upcoming retirement of the incumbent Chief Secretary, K. Ramakrishna Rao, who is scheduled to step down on June 30, 2026. Although several senior names were under active consideration for this top bureaucratic post, the government ultimately finalized Jaju, who will assume operational charge immediately after Rao’s tenure concludes.
Sanjay Jaju is a highly experienced 1992-batch officer belonging to the Telangana cadre. He has a distinguished track record of public service and recently returned to his home cadre after completing a successful central deputation, where he managed critical responsibilities across various union ministries. Jaju was officially relieved from central services just three days prior to this state appointment. Having previously handled several high-profile administrative assignments in both undivided Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, his extensive administrative acumen is expected to play a decisive role in accelerating governance.
The newly appointed Chief Secretary will bear the responsibility of driving the state government’s core priorities, streamlining the execution of public welfare schemes, and optimizing multi-departmental coordination. Bureaucratic analysts point out that his close familiarity with local governance, combined with his recent exposure to federal policy framework design, makes him uniquely equipped to lead the state’s executive wing. Moving forward, his immediate focus will likely center around enhancing administrative transparency, accelerating infrastructure development, and ensuring the seamless implementation of state policies.
