Delhi Airport Scare: Major Accident Averted as SpiceJet and Akasa Air Planes Collide on Runway; All Passengers Safe

A major aviation accident was narrowly avoided at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday afternoon when two aircraft collided on the ground. The incident occurred during taxiing and involved a SpiceJet Boeing 737 and a parked Akasa Air aircraft. According to airport officials, the wing of the SpiceJet plane brushed against the tail section of the Akasa Air aircraft while moving toward the runway, resulting in partial damage to both planes.

At the time of the collision, the Akasa Air flight (QP 1406) was fully boarded and prepared for its scheduled departure to Hyderabad. The sudden impact and loud sound caused immediate panic among the passengers on board. Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that no passengers or crew members sustained injuries. Following the incident, all travelers were safely deboarded, and alternative flight arrangements were promptly made to minimize further disruption to their travel plans.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken serious note of the incident and ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the root cause. The probe will focus on potential ground control failures or pilot error that led to the collision. Both aircraft have been grounded for repairs, and the event has sparked a renewed debate over safety protocols and ground management at India’s busiest airport.
