The Andhra Pradesh government is taking steps to construct a new signature bridge over the Krishna River, connecting Vijayawada with Amaravati. Designed to international standards, the proposed bridge is expected to serve not only as a vital transportation link but also as an iconic landmark for the capital city. With an estimated cost of around ₹1,000 crore, the project is being planned as a major infrastructure initiative.
At present, commuters travelling from Vijayawada to Amaravati mainly use the Varadhi or Prakasam Barrage routes. With traffic increasing steadily, these existing bridges are already experiencing congestion during peak hours. Once Amaravati becomes fully operational as the capital and movement of people and vehicles increases further over the next few years, authorities anticipate significant pressure on the existing routes.
The proposed signature bridge is expected to make travel between Vijayawada and Amaravati easier while providing an additional connectivity route to the capital region. Beyond easing traffic congestion, officials are reportedly considering developing the bridge as a major tourist attraction and iconic landmark. If implemented as planned, the project could become an important part of Amaravati’s future infrastructure and urban development.
