The Telangana government will start accepting applications for new pensions under the ‘Cheyutha’ scheme from Saturday, following orders issued by the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department. The government has decided to sanction new pensions from the 15th of this month. Officials clarified that the application process will continue throughout the year and there will be no final deadline. Priority will be given to single women, widows, toddy tappers, handloom workers, filariasis and dialysis patients, as well as persons with disabilities, including those suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell disease and haemophilia.
To be eligible, applicants must have an annual income of less than Rs.1.50 lakh in rural areas and Rs.2 lakh in urban areas. Those owning more than three acres of wetland or 7.5 acres of dry land, four-wheelers or heavy vehicles, as well as government, private or contract employees, business owners and wealthy property holders, will not be eligible. The scheme will also not apply to those already receiving government or freedom fighter pensions.
Those who had applied for the pension earlier do not need to submit a fresh application. However, they should check with Panchayat Secretaries or Ward Officers to verify the status of their applications. New applicants can download the application form from the Cheyutha website and submit the completed form to Panchayat Secretaries or MPDO offices in rural areas, and to Ward Officers, Bill Collectors or Municipal Commissioners in urban areas.
