He questioned the value of being considered a great player by fans and on social media if a batter cannot deliver when the team needs him the most. According to Ali, a player’s true greatness is measured by performances in challenging circumstances.
Speaking on The Game Plan, Basit Ali said that becoming a great player is never easy and stressed that players must prove themselves during tough periods. He questioned what purpose being regarded as a great player serves if the performance does not benefit the team. His comments have once again sparked debate over Babar Azam’s recent form and his role in Pakistan’s Test side.
